Fort Lewis, Wash. - The 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division will conduct a deployment ceremony Friday, July 24, at 10 a.m. on Watkins Field.Approximately 4,000 Soldiers will deploy with the brigade to Iraq later this summer.
This will be the 3rd Stryker Brigade's third deployment to Iraq. The brigade deployed in November 2003, serving 12 months in Samarra and Mosul. The unit deployed again to Iraq in June 2006, conducting operations in Mosul and the Ninevah Province, Baghdad, Najaf, and Baqubah before returning to Fort Lewis in September, 2007.
The 3rd Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, or "Arrowhead Brigade," was the Army's first Stryker Brigade Combat team. Today, there are six active-duty Stryker brigades, and one brigade in the Pennsylvania National Guard.
