My Gay Husband

Carmen catches laugh lines with old and new friends.

Last week was really unlike any other with my social dance card, and after sweating through a week of statistics (for those of you who missed the news, I’m back in school), along with my relentless work responsibilities, when Thursday arrived, the party was ON!

“38, and never been kissed”

Thursday I was invited to an impromptu birthday party for The Reverend that started at The Hub, and I’m absolutely elated that I went. I was greeted by a deluge of amazing peeps who were chillin’ at The Hub before I even got back to The Reverend’s table: Brian Dolman, Brian Redman, Darling Dana, Chris Roxxx, Holly Wood, Alexo Rulz, Awesome Andi and Howe (this town is WAY too small)!

By the time I finally made it to The Reverend’s section, I was ordered to sit smack dab in between him and his brother who is aptly known as My Gay Husband (fun!). My wine glass was filled immediately and remained that way the entire time. We had a table for 15-plus peeps, and all of them made me giggle.

As the crowd whittled down, several of us headed to Doyle’s for a beverage, then the four remaining — I, The Reverend, My Gay Husband and Flarry — sauntered up to Tempest, which was hosting karaoke with Colin. Flarry made us take shots, and My Gay Husband grabbed straw hats and a hula skirt that were just sitting there. We put on the hats, and The Reverend put the hula skirt on his head like a wig. My Gay Husband kept saying he looked like Kid Rock, and that made me almost pee my pants. The karaoke singers (with the exception of Cheryl Gorsuch) were absolutely terrible, but so funny, because My Gay Husband kept on yelling at them to shut up. Unfortunately, the night had to draw to a close, but I was all smiles the whole way home. I have to say that last Thursday was one of the best nights I’ve had in this city.

Praise The Sherpa

On Friday, K-Love and I went to our favorite Friday haunt, Asado, and The Sherpa met up with us. After our typical wine and nibblers, an unexpected bar crawl began. We went to the Red Hot, then caught some tasty margaritas at Matador and ended the night at Puget Sound Pizza. The Sherpa let me crash at his place, which was an excellent thing since I don’t know if I would’ve made it home alive after all of that fun.

Barleywine and pastiness

The Carmen Jones Fun Train steamed ahead on Saturday to join all of the people at the Parkways Barleywine Festival. I have to say that the Lagunitas was INCREDIBLE, and so was the people watching as pigs were roasted, beer aficionados swarmed, and we all appreciated the gorgeous sunny weather on the Parkway porch. Everyone was jealous of my olive complexion because all of the pasty Washingtonians were roasting like the pigs, and I laughed at them as they liberally applied their first layer of sun block for the year.
