A coffee joint for the fan of Tofurky and baked potato loaf in all of us.

How do we learn? Better yet, how do we teach? The easiest answer to both is by example and exposure. Owners of Tacoma's Caffe Dei stand behind their belief that nutritional education should be made available to everyone. Co-owner Shuanna Holt, a raw foods lifestyle coach and raw foodist, has plans to hold raw foods nutrition classes at Caffe Dei. While the café's stellar vegan/vegetarian menu will remain in place, a raw food direction will be sought.

I learned this tidbit from an online message from Caffe Dei stating, "While we love being able to supply our community with a much needed vegetarian/vegan outlet, we are looking to expand our nutritional horizons! We want to build out a community kitchen space where we are able to share our extensive knowledge of this lifestyle to our community."

The café provides a place where people can try things like the new shipment of RAW chocolates that came in last week. The 100 percent organic, fair trade goodies come in mint chocolate, white chocolate and mylk chocolate (dairy-free, vegan friendly). Also on the horizon are nine organic wines from places like Arizona Stronghold Vineyards, Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards - surprisingly the last two are endeavors of Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle.

See that? Caffe Dei teaches interesting things through exposure.
