Ronstadt Generations Trio

Deep in our weird, neurotic hearts, I think everyone feels an instinctual sympathy for people with great or famous sibling: When your sister is someone like Linda Ronstadt - an 11-time Grammy winner with 38 Billboard Hot 100 singles, with 21 reaching the top 40, 10 making it into the Top 10, and had one No. 1 hit, "You're No Good" - for example, how can you hope to even compete? You can't. At the same time, there must be a responsibility inherent in maintaining the family brand to be interesting as well as good. By these standards, the Ronstadt Generations Trio succeeds. The Tucson-based band - Linda Ronstadt's younger brother, Michael, and his two sons, Michael G. and Petie - three voices and all multi-instrumentalists and solo artists in their own right - bring to life a repertoire that reaches back to the end of the 19th century while continually looking ahead into the 21st, with a rich innovation of original material alongside traditional Southwestern and Mexican songs.

RONSTADT GENERATIONS, 8 p.m., Kilworth Memorial Chapel, University of Puget Sound, 1500 N. warner, Tacoma, $4-$12, 253.879.6013
