Of more importance, on Saturday thousands of Pierce County residents will celebrate the annual Parks Appreciation Day - in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of said Earth Day - by helping to clean and beautify a bunch of local parks from 9 a.m. to noon. Individuals can find a participating park online at parksappreciationday.net, and groups of 10 or more looking to lend a hand can register by contacting an official liaison for the park they're interested in working on.
