Typically, we like to buzz into Chopstix Dueling Piano Bar early before the 8:30 p.m. shows, fill our guts and pop a few drinks before the pianists force us to sing "She's Gone" by Hall and Oats, which would be appropriate since our girlfriend moved out, and we were drinking vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry and grapefruit juice in a highball glass. Weak.

Tuesdays at Chopstix is a completely different animal. The Bachelorette party-like atmosphere and dirty dancing is replaced with an open jam concept the Sixth Avenue joint calls Plug and Play Night. For some members of the audience, the songs or instruments being shared is less important than the chance to see someone who had the courage to risk getting up in front of a crowd. Though some newcomers are ready to take the stage their very first open jam at Chopstix, many spend their first few weeks taking refuge in the audience and giving themselves a little time to prepare.

The $2 beers help all concerned.
