Jake and Doina Morales are hard at work when I arrive in the heat of the afternoon. Sweat on his brow and a smile on his face, Jake greets me while his wife finalizes paperwork.

1 (One) Love Lounge is in the final stages of opening in downtown Olympia. Located at 422 Legion Way, between Northern and the Pig Bar, and in the same building as Fish Tale Brew Pub, the new restaurant and lounge will specialize in Romanian food with Tex-Mex flair, beer, wine, spirits and an atmospheric hookah lounge.

A grand-opening celebration is slated for Saturday, July 13.

The two-story, open concept space is roughly 2,000 sq. ft., which offers plenty of room for the couple to incorporate its vision: Moroccan-feeling, with rich colors, stenciling and lots of comfy couches.

Both Jake and Doina have experienced hookah lounges in other countries - she while visiting Germany, he while serving in the Army overseas in Afghanistan. The couple, who met over chili-cheese fries at Jakes, have three children and a strong desire to bring a relaxing setting to the city they call home.

"I've been at war since 2003," said Jake, who was medivaced home last October. "I'm ready to be at peace."

This sentiment of peace is what's behind the name, 1 Love Lounge, as well as the opportunity to bring community members together.

"When you think of a hookah lounge," Doina said. "You think of a sharing experience."

The couches with coffee tables, and the way the couple prepares and serves dishes, like veggie, cheese, fruit and taco platters, are all designed to offer just that.

The hookahs, however, are more personal. While some of the apparatuses will have an adaptable second tube, most hookahs are single-use, which "offers a much better smoking experience," Doina said.

In traditional hookah lounges, Shisha is the preferred smoke. Tobacco infused and considerably harsher, Shisha will not be a menu choice at 1 Love Lounge. Pressure injected pebbles, or steam rocks, will. Flavors range from whiskey to tangerine, and apple to organic lavender sage. Hookah sessions can cost $10 - $20 and can last 45 minutes or longer.

Happy Hour will be 7-9 p.m., with special nights for military and veterans, ladies and performances, like music and belly dancing.
