Orange Blossoms

From down in the dirty swamps of Florida JJ Grey and Mofro fuse the filthiest of blues with JJ’s disgustingly amazing southern grown vocals to create some of the most quality blues today.  Orange Blossoms their newest release from Alligator Records continues to demonstrate the band’s ability to turn the clearest of water into the muddiest of blues.

The opening guitar riff of the title track “Orange Blossoms” conjures memories of CCR, but Grey shatters any illusions of John Fogherty as his vocals take over.  Transitioning seamlessly from a blues-grooving verse to an uplifting chorus filled with vivid imagery of Florida’s state flower, the orange blossom, Grey pulls the listener into his world of stunning blues.

From here Grey demonstrates his wizardry for cooking up some funk-blues potions and mixing it up with some deep-fried soulful R&B by creating a landscape of varying blues styles.  As the album moves through the shifting landscape from the gospel-esque “Everything Good is Bad” to the raunchy funk riffs of “On Fire,” JJ Grey and Mofro show that there ‘s enough blues to go around.
