Tacoma trifecta

Carmen kicks her usual T-town flavor.

Spring is certainly in the air, which I can feel in my blood and in the excitement I share with all of the people around me. I’ve always said that once outsiders spend a spring or summer in Washington they never leave. But as rain pitter-pattered on our heads and our homes last week, here’s how I spent my time.

Happy B-Day, Philmosa!

Thursday was Philmosa’s birthday, so Model Squad Ebony and I started his evening off right by surrounding him at one of the new booths (so cool!) at the Top of Tacoma Bar and Café. He looked just as dapper as ever (you should always check Philmosa’s shoes!), and he filled his little belly with that luscious mac and cheese with prosciutto so he’d be sure to last all night long. Unfortunately, I had a treacherous schedule the next day, so I had to hustle home.

Dusty 45s love on the Weekly Volcano

Friday I caught a show that had been glowing on my schedule all week. Natasha, Jill, Double A and I filled a front table at Jazzbones for the Billy Joe and the Dusty 45s show. Jazzbones contained all kinds of people, including Erik and Mary, who were dancing on the floor or in their seats to the band’s Americana, swing and rockabilly sound. Lead singer Billy Joe Huels even gave a sweet shout-out to Natasha and the Weekly Volcano in front of that whole crowd, which made me punch her in the shoulder like a jealous step sister. Billy Joe was so charming during and after his show that I really wanted to put him in my pocket and save him for later.

I don’t really know how Billy Joe would’ve fared in my pocket, though, because after the show, I adjourned to the Top of Tacoma where I accidentally got faded. Damn those delicious grape bomb shots!! It’s a good thing that my worry-free three-block walk home never damages my beautiful feet, even in stilettos.

Perfect Proctor

Saturday I went to dinner for my first time at Europa Bistro with a new dude in my life, Street Cred. Europa lived up to all of the positive referrals that people have delivered about this place. I got the pesto linguini that tasted so very yummy and fresh. Of course, we had to finish the tiramisu that made me lick my lips.

Following, we got a couple of cocktails at La Fondita where Johanna was bartending, and I got an update on her cute little baby and the Urban Art Festival that she and her crew coordinate each and every year. This year it’ll all go down June 29 at Fireman’s Park downtown. There’s also an upcoming fund-raiser for the function that YOU KNOW I’ll be at: 7 p.m. April 5, Sanford and Son, 743 Broadway, $5 donation. The fund-raiser lineup includes The Vamanos, Trip the Light Fantastic, Battersea, AbZtraKt SyNeRgY with Voronoff the Human Sculpture and Matt Eklund on guitar/effects, Brandt from Don’t Tell Sophie and DJ Jimmy Sparkles. YES!
