Ryan and Leena Rommann wanted to share their love for Korean flavors and spices with the community of Lacey.  Though it's not technically all Korean cuisine, MiSo Asian Bistro is clearly inspired by the flavors of Leena's childhood, and as Ryan describes it, "it is basically Subway for Asian food."

Newly opened, at MiSo, you essentially get to select not only your ingredients from the menu board, but also the way in which they are served to you.  The concept is simple: choose between a roll, a bowl or a salad; how you set it up; and how much is up to you.

First, the options.  MiSo offers a choice of a protein, cheese, veggies and sauces that is sure to satisfy even the pickiest of customers.  All made in-house, it may take more than one visit to figure out your go-to because with over 15 sauces, a dozen vegetables, and seven choices of meat, the options are nearly limitless.  Second is how you want it today: you can choose to have your combination of meat, sauce and veggies in a salad of fresh chopped romaine, or in a bowl that has a solid foundation of sticky rice, and lastly the roll which is essentially a burrito sized nori style roll blanketed in a sheet of seaweed.

Finally, the flavors are what bring people in to the bistro.  I opted for the panda size roll with rice, pulled pork, mushrooms and the corn slaw.  The roll was well made and unlike some rolls elsewhere, it didn't fall apart when I handled it.  The ingredients were like no other; the pulled pork was moist, tender and full of smoky flavor that went well with the saltiness of the seaweed wrap and the sweetness and creaminess of the corn slaw.  I added a side of kimchi which added the perfect amount of hot Korean spice to my meal.  You have the option of going nearly any direction you wish with flavor combinations of spicy Thai sweet chili, sriracha and wasabi mayo, or sweet with teriyaki, or sweet orange.  Also, because the vegetables are all prepared daily, you are assured both fresh flavor and the crunchy texture that will complete your meal.

Opening the doors in November, MiSo Asian Bistro is sure to be a hot spot in the South Sound.  The friendly service and proximity to both Joint Base Lewis-McChord and St. Martins University combined with diversified combination of ingredients will likely keep customers coming back to try different lineups.  Make your way to Lacey and you will not be disappointed.
