BEER TASTING

North Shore Golf Course (4101 Northshore Blvd. NE, Tacoma) hosts a Sam Adams Beer Tasting Party from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13. Festivities include a buffet of eats, live music and samples of Sam Adams beers for a measly $20. To really make things interesting, the Northwest Tacoma clubhouse adds a stein hoisting competition to the mix. Think you can hoist a full liter stein longer than anyone else?

Stop watching moonshiners on reality television and make your own hooch. Wait. Better yet, skip the overalls and the tool shed and try your hand at quality bourbon and rye whiskey. Heritage Distilling Company (3207 57th St. Ct. NW, Gig Harbor) hosts "My Batch," an exclusive and rare opportunity for lovers of the brown liquor to distill their own spirits. The three-hour course at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 includes distilling instruction plus the opportunity to sample HDC products in their tasting room.
