BITE US: Left Foot Organics goes formal, Blue Cannon Pizza report

The good word in the South Sound

Get formal for farms

A wild salmon barbecue, provided by Wilson Fish, will be the featured dish.  The produce, naturally, will be fresh from Left Foot Organics. And it'll all be part of the Fun Farm Formal at South Puget Sound Community College, Saturday, Oct. 9, in the Student Union building.

That's right. Left Foot Organics is urging folks to "jazz up their jeans, shine their boots and press their petticoats," for the formal party.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and will include silent and live auctions - with proceeds from the event benefiting Left Foot Organics and its programs. For those unfamiliar with the Olympia-based organization, Left Foot Organics promotes sustainable farming practices while at the same time promoting, "self-sufficiency, inclusion and independence for people with disabilities and rural youth through meaningful, paid employment and training in the business of growing and selling quality organic food and farm products," according to leftfootorganics.org.

Blue Cannon Pizza Co

At Blue Cannon Pizza Co. a big blue cannon with red wheels rests under the front counter.

"All the kids notice it right off," shared the smiling girl who punched in our order.

She told us of what must be an unadvertised special (not on overhead menu): 6-inch personal pizzas come with two toppings for $5. My dining companion and I spilt a 12-inch Mediterranean with red sauce and BBQ chicken with white sauce. Unfortunately, we received 100 percent red sauce, which was a bummer. Plentiful fresh garden veggies were appreciated, but thumbs down on doughy raw crust center. Thin crust pizzas are $10.99-$19.99.

Signature flatbread with tasty, salty bacon and melted mozzarella cheese is offered in addition to typical hot wings, garlic bread, pepperoni, cheese and marinara-stuffed bread sticks and potato wedges ($3.99-$5.99).

Salads come small, medium or family size ($3.99-$14.99), and on the French roll sandwich front you have meatball, Italian and chicken Parmesan to choose from ($6.99).

For adults: wine, domestic, import bottled and draft beers.

For kids: fountain drinks, juice and milk. - Jennifer Johnson
