I stepped out onto my porch on a grey morning and felt that chill. You know the one, the first of the season that tells you that autumn has finally arrived. I turned quick on my heels and immediately began to snag the scarves and hats that I'll be donning for the next six months of the year, and daydreamed of a treat that will warm my already weary bones. Soup. Because what is September but the kick-off of scarf and soup season? Here are a few picks to get a steaming bowl of grub near you.

Infinite Soups is a clear front-runner. Each day, they post a rotating list of freshly crafted soups for your consumption and their selection blows all other options out of the water, with 12 to upwards of 20 options every single day. The menu tends to be sectioned into four parts: Creamy, Vegetarian, Non-Creamy and Vegan; and within each section you'll find comfort food favorites and more adventurous concoctions with ease. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday-Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday; closed Sunday, 445 Tacoma Ave. S., Tacoma

Tacoma's first ramen stop, Moshi Moshi, will satiate your soup fix. Handcrafted noodles and satisfying, scrumptious broth options filled with exotic fare. Try the TanTan with red miso, spicy pork, nori, egg yolk and scallion or the Tankotsu with a pork bone broth laying the base for pork belly, wood ear mushrooms, scallion, black garlic oil and aji tamale. Hearty and perfect for slurping. Noon-10 p.m., Monday-Thursday; noon-11 p.m., Friday-Saturday; closed Sunday, 110B N. Tacoma Ave., Tacoma

Tucked away among gritty stripmalls that line South Tacoma Way, Yen Ching still crafts that best Sizzling Rice Soup I've had. Maybe it's the nostalgia talking but the aromas wafting through the air and the sizzle of the crisp rice as it swims atop the broth is pure heaven. 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday-Friday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, 8765 South Tacoma Way, Lakewood

Pho is delectable, soup-y delicousness no matter what the season, and to be quite honest, I can't choose just one locale. Pho Dragon and Vien Dong Restaurant in Tacoma's Lincoln District both boast generous portion sizes and flavorful options. Hilltop's Pho King is bustling each time I step over the threshold and Pho Than Brothers is just damn tasty. So, I guess what I'm trying to say is try the pho place near you to get your fix. The options are plentiful.

Olympia's 5th Avenue Sandwich Shop is a classic choice for a cup of soup and half a sammie lunch deal. They run daily specials that include the likes of Beer Cheese Soup, French Onion and Chicken Noodle. Paired with freshly baked bread, your spirit will warm right up. 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday-Sunday; closed Monday, 116 Legion Way SE, Olympia
