Person(s): Ben Toombs and Marisa Mezs

Place: My super-duper MacBook fantastico

Thing: A local blog worth taking a gander at

Called: Clearance Cuisine

Found at: Clearancecuisine.com

If you can't find it online: I feel sorry for you

You remind me of: My mom

Who says: She's "calling" a website

When she goes: Online

Old people: Are funny

Except: When they're driving

Don't even: Get me started with that

Very few blogs catch my attention. Of course, voyeurism in any capacity is always magnificent entertainment (minus that one time I walked in on my dad pooping), and anonymous cyber-voyeurism is exactly what most blogs promote.

During a recent online peep-show venture, I found particular interest in Clearance Cuisine - a local website/blog maintained by a selfless couple who put themselves in danger for the sake of the public's digestive benefit. By traveling to discount grocery stores and purchasing both the most odd and rewarding of close-out foods, Marisa Mezs and Ben Toombs break down the pros and cons of each item through consumption and research.

From an energy drink promoted by Lance Armstrong, chai-flavored chocolate bars and Jimmy Dean breakfast corndogs all the way to a variety of Aplets & Cotlets snacks (What the eff are those things anyway?), Mezs and Toombs take away all mystery and make everyone's discount food purchase decisions much easier.

"Ben hated the Lance Armstrong drink. He even went as far as to research all the beneficial qualities the drink claimed to have - none of which were really true," Mezs tells me. I was embarrassed to admit that I've actually purchased and ingested the Jimmy Dean breakfast corndogs, which I paid full price for and enjoyed thoroughly.

Mezs and Toombs frequent Grocery Outlet in Tacoma, but are not sponsored by the discount chain and prefer to focus on the food, not the store. They say they have yet to be stricken with food poisoning since their inaugural blog entry in January of 2011.

I admire Mezs and Toombs for many reasons, one being their tenacity to give us the information behind random food anomalies like Aplets & Cotlets. Recently having toured the Aplets & Cotlets manufacturing facility, the couple is currently holding an online A&C giveaway.

Did you feel that breeze? That was everyone rushing to clearancecuisine.com.  Don't be left out.
