If you like pancakes, Santa and the military, then this event is for you.

Calling it "Santa Supports Our Troops" day, the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) DuPont sub chapter will host a pancake breakfast on Nov. 28. From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., at McNamara's Pub and Eatery in Dupont. Breakfast, which includes pancakes, bacon, eggs and coffee or juice, cost $10. Families can also get their pictures taken with Santa.

All proceed will go to AUSA Captain Meriwether Lewis Sub-chapter Dupont.

The organizers of the breakfast get-together said this is a chance to "enjoy a short stack for a tall cause."

AUSA, the professional organization of the Army, is all about supporting our troops. And AUSA accomplishes this in a variety of ways, like giving away turkeys on Thanksgiving and hams at Christmas.

"We also do single serviceman baskets, care packages, anything and everything that we feel will help the life of our soldiers," said Amy Tiemeyer, president of the local chapter.

The goal is to bring some happiness to a military family. Tiemeyer said it's also a way of preventing a dark moment.

"It's to aid against, specifically, veteran's suicide and domestic violence," Tiemeyer said.

Throughout the year, the local AUSA chapter is supporting the military families. Locally, there are 11 different sub chapters in 11different cities. Each city and each sub chapter has units they directly support. This pancake breakfast is in support of the 62nd Medical Brigade, the Night Stakers, and the Washington National Guard.

"It's so that when they're having a Christmas party we can help out and purchase Christmas presents for the military children, or buy hams and turkeys," Tiemeyer said.

It's all about helping put a smile on the moment.

Besides helping to bring good cheer to holiday events by giving away gifts and food, AUSA is also involved in hosting sporting events like the Zombie Run and the Crossfit Games. Events like this are a way of connecting people.

"It brings that relationship," Tiemeyer said. "Our organization is about relationship building."

Besides reaching out to families, AUSA is also networking with soldiers and businesses. They try to connect the two.

"I always encourage businesses to get involved with AUSA through these events," Tiemeyer said. "When you need to hire someone, you're hiring specialist so and so not simply because they're a veteran, but because you saw their work ethic. You get along with them. It's a perfect fit."

McNamara's Pub & Eatery is at 1595 Wilmington Drive in DuPont.
