The recently opened Hampton Inn & Suites [800 Station Drive, DuPont] is a new hotel for military families and visitors looking for convenience, quality service and comfortable accommodations.

When walking into the establishment, visitors will quickly notice the vibrant red and grey pattern colors. The interior décor, with a few whimsical pieces of standing art, is fashionable and relaxing.

Since opening its doors earlier this month, business has been steady, mostly consisting of the military, said Katherine O'Connell, sales and marketing director.

"We're getting nothing but positive feedback," she said. "It's not your typical Hampton Inn & Suites."

It's the closest hotel to Joint Base Lewis-McChord's DuPont gate, and about 80 percent of the hotel's visitors are related to the military, she said.

The lounge, commonly referred to as the perfect mix, features a community table and other places to relax. The goal was to make it a comfortable place to mingle.

The hotel accommodates its guests with a free hot breakfast, including fresh-baked waffles or healthy options such cereals, yogurt, fruit and more.

If you're looking to burn a few calories while staying at the hotel, there is a pedestrian trail located just outside, as well as a heated indoor pool with ADA access and a workout room with treadmills, elliptical machines, stationary bikes, a fitness training station, free weights and medicine balls.

Rooms feature queen and king-sized beds and flat-screen televisions. Suites are large enough to accommodate an entire family and can fit six comfortably, perfect for relocating military families.

Those in town on business can take advantage of the hotel's free, high-speed Internet access and business center, where they can fax and print documents.

"Once you get here, you're not nickel and dimed to death," O'Connell said.

There is also a meeting room that can be booked ahead of time, which is perfect for  small conferences.

Because of its close proximity to JBLM, the Hampton Inn & Suites honors the per diem and military relocation rates.

O'Connell said the most challenging part about opening the new hotel has been getting the word out. Staff has been working with the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce and will soon host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the hotel's opening.
