Currently, there are about 770,000 open cybersecurity positions in the United States. City University (CityU) of Seattle offers the education and  hands on skills needed to enter this growing career field.

"People with technology and security skills are in great demand," began Morgan Zantua, Director - Center of the Center for Cybersecurity Innovation and Professor in the School of Technology & Computing (STC). "We transition adults into new careers."

CityU offers a number of programs ranging from stackable certifications to doctoral degrees. The university was recognized as a Top 10 educator of adults nationwide. U.S. News & World Report ranked the university in the category of Best Online Bachelors' program and the 28th Best Online Graduate Computer Information program.

The Center for Cybersecurity Innovation is designated as a Center of Academic Excellence by the NSA. The Bachelor of Science Cybersecurity (BSCY)  and the Master of Science in Cybersecurity are coming up for designation and redesignation in 2024.

"At the School of Technology & Computing all programs are designed to include security components. STC courses are designed and taught by working professionals. Courses embed critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and cultural competencies skills employers demand in their employees."

While the CityU campus in Tacoma is located at 3315 South 23rd St., courses are delivered primarily on-line, in asynchronous and synchronous modes to meet the needs of active-duty, Guard/Reserve personnel and veterans.

"We are flexible and combine different modalities to meet the learning style and schedules of our students," continued Zantua, "and our asynchronous classes enable working adults to review recorded content to fit their schedules while having cohort interaction."

She emphasized that CityU offers cybersecurity programs and The Center for Cybersecurity Innovation has scholarship programs of interest to the military community.

The NSA's STARTALK is a language education program that expands the teaching of strategically important languages in the United States. CityU's STARTALK program targets candidates (ages 18 to 40) with an intermediate knowledge of Korean, and a scholarship provides an opportunity to learn Python and Cybersecurity basics said Zantua. The Center also has a grant to prepare high school teachers to instruct a complete course on cybersecurity. Details and the application form are also available on the website.

CityU supports the DoD Cyber Scholarship for service program. "Civilians selected by a DoD agency receive a stipend, full-tuition, a computer laptop, internships, a book allowance, travel to conferences and a job at the end of their education.
