The Exceptional Family Member Program on JBLM

The Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is a private group supporting families that have exceptional needs. This includes families who have a member with a physical, emotional, developmental, or an intellectual disability. While enrollment into EFMP is required by the Service member, the group welcomes all who need support.

For example, EFMP staff put on small coffee socials to answer questions, and to provide information about related community services. These take place the second Tuesday of every month, at the Battle Bean at AFC Arena, Building 2275 on Lewis Main. Here, you can meet other adult EFMs or caregivers of EFMP families. While RSVPs are not required, please call (253) 967-3553 for more information.

Held monthly, JBLM EFMP partners with Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) to give families workshops, for both school aged children and teenagers as well. EFMP also has a Working Focus Group, which focuses on identifying and finding solutions to issues affecting the EFMP families here at JBLM. In addition to these wonderful programs designed to help your children excel, EFMP also knows exactly how to have fun. They show a sensory friendly movie at the McChord Theater every 3rd Saturday of the month. To make the movie sensory friendly, they turn the volume down and leave the lights on; even encouraging dancing in the aisles and walking throughout the theater.
