Local tanning salon deals

The Pacific Northwest's outdoors have so much to offer - from gorgeous views and mountains to fish that people in other parts of the country can't imagine. What the outdoors here does not offer, however, is sunshine strong enough to give you a tan. As a result, when summer arrives, many turn to indoor tanning so they can feel like it is summer - even if the temperature outside is no higher than 75 degrees.

Despite the numerous tanning salons surrounding Joint Base Lewis-McChord, few offer a military discount, though they often have other sales and specials. The following locations do offer military discounts on tanning services and/or products.

Discounts aside, the indoor tanning industry is facing a major overhaul this summer when it comes to cost. To help fund the $940 billion health care overhaul that Congress recently passed, a 10 percent tax on individuals using indoor tanning services will begin July 1. The initiative, which will apply to each respective tanning transaction, is expected to generate $2.7 billion over the next ten years. The tanning tax will apply to electronic products designed for tanning that use one or more ultraviolet lamps with wavelengths between 200 and 400 nanometers. Tanning options such as spray tans and tanning lotions are not included in the tax.
