A nineteenth century chapel, a 14,000 square foot castle, an English Manor, a modern theater, plush gardens, a bed and breakfast, and a historic house are but a few of the places where military couples can get married in the Puget Sound area.

Whether you are looking for a small or large ceremony and reception hall, some local wedding sites offer some great incentives for military couples.

Opened about six months ago, the Chapel of Divine Elegance is one of the newest wedding sites in the area.  Built in the 1890s, about two blocks from the Point Defiance Park, the quaint chapel has the ambiance and appearance of a non-denominational church. The chapel is ideal for military couples, because it is convenient, said Julie Swenson who owns the chapel with her husband Eric.

"Our chapel is a charming and intimate facility," Swenson said. "It is pre-decorated and ready to go. The couple just has to bring the wedding officiant, the food, and the guests.  We take care of everything else."

The couple is offering a 10 percent discount off the price of a wedding package which ranges in price from $600 to $1350, Swenson said. Also the Swensons will accommodate military deployments, she said.

"If a soldier is deployed, or his or her return date is changed, we will allow them to reschedule without forfeiting their deposit," she said. "We are flexible, and we understand that people in the military do not always know when they will have to deploy."

Melanie McNair, the owner of Jardin del Sol, an outdoor garden venue offers similar incentives including a $200 discount, as well as flexibility with the date. For $2000 to $3000 the couple receives an 8 hour rental of a large white tent and the surrounding 7 acres of outdoor garden area for up to 200 guests.

"Jardin del Sol is a very beautiful and unique outdoor venue," McNair said. "If a couple is looking for an outdoor wedding, we are a great location."

Also couples can visit Jardin del Sol, along with 14 other Snohomish sites on May 23 during the Snohomish Wedding Showcase Tour and enter to win free wedding services at each venue. For more information visit the Web site at www.snohomishwedding.com.

Editor's note - the Liberty Theatre package changed and was removed from the story.

I referred my niece to the Liberty Theater. Her fiance is currently stationed in Iraq. She was told the fee would be almost $9000. When she questioned the amount of $4500 as stated here, she was told there was a shift in management. Sounds like a change of heart to me. Sad that they are drawing people in with this article.
