Jet City Comic Show is throwing its second annual celebration of pop culture, tights, zombies and the arts at the Tacoma Convention Center Saturday. Comics are the star of the show, it's bringing a wide array of artists, writers and publishers to the South Sound, including Harvey Award winning writer of The Mice Templar Bryan Glass; acclaimed artist Ed Piskor of Hip Hop Family Tree and American Splendor; Eisner winning artist Steve Lieber of Whiteout and The Superior Foes of Spiderman fame; and New York Times best-selling writer Tim Seeley, the creator of Hack/Slash and writer of DC Comics' Grayson.

There's also a little something for TV and film nerds. Actors Dirk Benedict of The A Team and Battlestar Galactica and Richard Hatch - who featured prominently in both the original Battlestar Galactica and the 2000s reboot - will be in attendance for photo ops and autographs. Author/screenwriter Peter Beagle of the cult classic The Last Unicorn will also be on hand.

After browsing the show floor, attendees will find a wide range of activities. The show will have a gaming section, with tournaments and demos for Magic The Gathering, War Machine and DC Deckbuilder. There will also be a costume contest, vendors, a live art session, and a series of discussion panels.

Pulitzer nominated political cartoonist Matt Bors, current comics editor for The Nib, will be on a panel discussing non-fiction comics along with the author of this preview - who in a shameless plug will now recommend checking out his comics work for War is Boring.

The weekend will also feature a wide range of events outside the convention hall. Friday, The Blue Mouse Theatre hosts a screening of Battlestar Galactica with Hatch and Benedict as special guests for a Q&A, and then Saturday night screens The Last Unicorn with Beagle.

JET CITY COMIC SHOW, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, Tacoma Convention & Trade Center, 1500 Broadway, Tacoma, $10, jetcitycomicshow.com
