The students at Arbutus Folk School will put down their Pieh Har-Lev Ergonomic Cross Pein Hammers, Langstroth Beehive Frames, Spriggs Adjustable Frame Looms and Excalibur nine-tray food dehydrators and pick up guitars for the Arbutus Acoustic Open Mic, which happens every first Monday of the month. The M.C. and organizer of the event is Mark Iler, who started and ran the open mic for Victory Music in Seattle for 20 years. It's a friendly environment, and certainly open to everyone, even if you don't make Scandinavian knives at the Olympia school.

ARBUTUS ACOUSTIC OPEN MIC, 7-9 p.m., Arbutus Folk School, 600 Fourth Ave. E., Olympia, small donation to Arbutus is suggested by non-performing audience ($2-$5), 360.867.8815
