As you read in the Weekly Volcano, the Squeak and Squawk Music Festival kicked off Thursday. Bands from all over the Northwest and beyond will be stopping in Tacoma to unleash their magic Sept. 12-16. Below is the schedule for Sunday, Sept. 15.

All Ages, 6-9 p.m., $7
Library at Sanford and Son
743 Broadway, Tacoma

>>> LAKE

This Olympia favorite and K Records signee is a six-piece that specializes in lush harmonics, with a strong disposition for sunny '70s AM gold and gently swaying melodies.

>>> Friends and Family

A seven-piece outfit from Seattle, Friends and Family are a ball of unbridled energy, which they then release in waves of cathartic music that might earn them comparisons to Arcade Fire-which isn't too much of a stretch, considering that they have a french horn player on deck-but I prefer their description: "cluster-folk."

>>> The Hoot Hoots

We loved these guys at last year's SQSQ, this power pop foursome which a predilection for wearing silly costumes and writing songs about dinosaurs, robots, asking that one girl out, and the end of the world.

21+, 9 p.m., $7
The New Frontier Lounge
301 E. 25th St., Tacoma

>>> Not From Brooklyn

Everyone knows these guys; they've been building steam for the past couple years with their dark post-punk that drifts over dance beats and smoky synthesizer.

>>> Fen Wik Ren

This latest project from R. Barrett - of Squeak and Squawk alums, the Pica Beats - is an unpredictable melange of psychedelic experimentation, dance-hall energy and jumpy indie rock.

>>> Wheelies

This beloved Tacoma group have been busy recording a proper debut for Swoon Records, which I can't wait to hear; their off-kilter indie rock has always charmed.
