It’s a new week, which means it’s time for a new installment of Bobble Tiki’s South Sound music notes column. Let’s get rolling…

Bobble Tiki doesn’t just love the blues, he is the blues. Themes that define the genre also define Bobble Tiki’s very life. Yes, Bobble Tiki has seen a lot of pain — he’s had many girlfriends leave, he’s squandered plenty of money, and he’s seen the bottom of a box of wine on plenty of occasions. Bobble Tiki is like a living, breathing Tiki-fication of everything the blues is about.

This Sunday at the Swiss the South Sound Blues Association (SSBA) is hosting a fundraiser to help send one band and one solo performer — Blues Redemption and JD Hobson, respectively — to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January. As readers may recall, Hobson and Blues Redemption emerged victorious earlier this year at the SSBA’s Back to Beale Street Competition — meaning the SSBA will be footing the bill for travel to Memphis for both acts.

To help the SSBA do just that, a fundraiser was in order — and this one looks to be a doozey. Starting a 4 p.m. and running until 10:30 p.m., those scheduled to perform include Alice Stuart and Friends, The Michal Miller Band, The Al Earick Band, The Stacey Jones Band — and, naturally, Hobson and Blues Redemption.

Moving right along, The Legend of Bigfoot will play its debut show this Saturday, Aug. 29 at Hell’s Kitchen. Led by former Sons of Ivan frontman Mike Krushka, the Legend of Bigfoot will be holding its own as part of HK’s Heavy in Tacoma Fest.

“We are expecting the H.K. show to be the official start of something great,” says Krushka.

Still, one question remained for Bobble Tiki: If the Weekly Volcano somehow got a hold of some grainy camcorder footage of the Legend of Bigfoot practicing in the woods, would it look like the real deal, or just a bunch of dudes in gorilla suits?

“Well, if it was us obviously it would look like guys in suits,” explained Krushka. “Unless, of course, you’re eluding to the fact that we may, indeed, be the real deal. That would require further testing and observation.”
