THE CLASS: A high school classroom turns into a microcosm of French society in this brilliant film about student-teacher dynamics.  Based on a novel by a teacher, Francois Begaudeau, who plays himself, it shows a teacher who wants to excel and finds it is the students who, in the end, determine that possibility.  Winner of Cannes 2008, a 2009 Academy nominee for best foreign film. JUST LIKE BEFORE: In the late ‘80s The Dawn was a very influential Filipino rock band.  When there leader, Teddy Daiz, was tragically murdered the band continued on until 1996.  The film picks up in 2006, the band is reunited but one of the members, Jett Pangan, is burned out.  A mugging leaves him in a comma.  When he wakes up he remembers nothing about his life after 1988.  Jett’s ride through this strange new world proves itself to be a tough, emotional, and sometimes hilarious journey-accompanied by the celebrated music of The Dawn, both past and present.
