Threads of Hope

What I blew my paycheck on this week.

Tacoma’s Breast Cancer Resource Center has been chosen as the well deserving recipient for funds generated at Threads of Hope, an inspiring evening of fashion, art and entertainment hosted by Rebecca V Gallery Friday, Oct. 24. Gallery Director Odessa Poole — the driving force behind this event — is a fashion artist and designer herself. Poole knows firsthand how important raising awareness of the disease and funding for treatment and care is. Both of her grandmothers are breast cancer survivors.

“I know so many lives can be saved with education and support through organizations such as this one,” she says.

Using fashion as a platform to increase women’s knowledge was a no-brainer for Poole.

“I decided to do a different twist on a fund-raiser with the designers donating garments.”

More than 12 local designers, seven of whom are Bates Fashion Design program students, have designed and created garments specifically for this event. They will be modeled and then be the featured items in the live auction with a special surprise guest auctioneer. Sparkling numbers by jewelry artists also will be featured.

Models’ hair will be done by stylist Najamoniq and by Roni of Steven Christian Hair Salon with makeup by Jennifer Hansen and Desirae Fraser of MAC cosmetics.

Models will mingle with the crowd to afford a close-up look at the hot new designs prior to auction bidding.

This event is an exciting introduction to Tacoma’s newest fashion group aptly named Fashion Association of Tacoma, or FAT, which will have a premiere social Thursday, Nov. 6 (also at Rebecca V). The $10 advance tickets are available now. This enters one in a raffle for dazzling prizes and gift certificates from area restaurants, coffee shops, and massage specialists.

There will be a silent auction for beautiful art, Savi Day Spa packages, handcrafted jewelry, and a relaxing “Hood Canal Getaway” that includes lodging and dinner.

Enjoy live piano by Rob Anderson and wine and hors d’oeuvres catered by Masa and Asado.
