Nobunny, So Cow

Leave it to a guy in a bunny mask

Sunday may not be the most popular night of the week to go see a show, but sometimes it just happens that way. Sometimes a band or show presents itself on a Sunday that’s just too sweet to ignore. Sometime, even if your good sense tells you otherwise, you can’t help but head out on a Sunday for a few drinks and a heaping helping of rock and roll.

Sunday, May 25 the Le Voyeur in Olympia presents just such an opportunity. By now it should be well known that Le Voyeur consistently books some of the most unorthodox, intriguing, inspiring, and just plain strange rock shows anywhere in the Weekly Volcano’s realm — both Tacoma and Olympia. The club will put the fact on display yet again this week when Oakland’s Nobunny and Ireland’s So Cow team up for what should be one of the best shows of the week — Sunday or not.

Nobunny is a masked man, or rocker rather, with a penchant for the genre’s formative years — think Chuck Berry guitar and soda fountain hand claps, spliced with the fuzzy edge of ’70s Ramones sensibilities. Aided by a Flying V guitar and an unmistakable rabbit mask, Nobunny is a sight to be seen, and more importantly heard.

Also a one man show, So Cow’s antics aren’t as prominent as Nobunny’s, but the two performers on one bill makes a lot of sense. It should also make for one hell of a show. So Cow is indie pop at its best — the perfect marriage of horn rims and hooks. His Irish roots are apparent but not overpowering, and by the lone power of his own creativity So Cow manages a sound like few of his contemporaries.

Leave it to a guy in a bunny mask and an Irishman to make one of the best shows all week. By now we should expect nothing else from Le Voyeur. This Sunday, Nobunny, So Cow and the Dutchess And The Duke at Le Voyeur is a show you don’t want to miss.
