In the ever-changing landscape of nonprofit organizations, the ACU Foundation shines as a beacon of hope and support for the local community. Established in 2019 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, the ACU Foundation is guided by a steadfast mission: to enhance the lives of military members, South Sound residents, and their families. This mission reflects the organization's unwavering commitment to improving the well-being and opportunities of those who have sacrificed and dedicated their lives to serving their country. The foundation's initiatives are designed to address a wide range of needs and challenges faced by these communities.

Amber Young, Chairman of the ACU Foundation, took a minute to chat with us about what inspired America's Credit Union to start the foundation. "ACU has run a successful charity golf tournament, The Turkey Shoot, since 2000. The funds raised were donated to nonprofit organizations on JBLM, such as The Madigan Foundation, Santa's Castle and what used to be the Food Basket Program. In 2018 we were looking at ways to grow the tournament to raise more funds. The next logical step was The Foundation. It was important for me to create a board who believed in what ACU is doing and were diverse enough to bring new creative ideas with them. I knew exactly who I wanted for our President, Dan Nicholson. I've worked with Dan for years and his experience, can-do attitude and creativity was exactly what we needed. From there it feels like everything fell into place."

This year's annual charity golf tournament will take place on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at Eagle's Pride Golf Course on Joint Base Lewis McChord. The goal of the Turkey Shoot tournament has always been to raise funds to help troops, veterans, and their families during the holidays and throughout the year. Since the inaugural event, the tournament has raised over $600,000 including last year's incredible $45,000 to help families in need. This year ACU has their eye on an even heftier goal of $60,000 to ensure they can help as many families as possible. The money raised will be used to support these service members and their families. All donations will benefit the military communities of Joint Base Lewis-McChord and Camp Murray through the ACU Foundation.

Registration for the tournament is now open to players and will remain open until all slots are filled. To learn more, register, or sponsor the event visit https://turkeyshoot.youracu.org/.
