It’s a new week, which means it’s time for a new installment of Bobble Tiki’s South Sound music notes column. Let’s get rolling …

Are you tired of this shitty economy keeping your favorite yearly festivals and celebrations down? Well, while Bobble Tiki can’t say for certain that this Great Recession is over, but Tiki can say for certain that the economy will have absolutely no impact on Tacoma’s annual Maltoberfest.

Bobble Tiki received word this week that Maltoberfest IV — Maltacalypse Now, will go down on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Bob’s Java Jive. Those unfamiliar with Maltoberfest need only envision two things — malt liquor and lederhosen.

While Maltoberfest organizer Craig Egan has yet to reveal this year’s musical lineup, Bobble Tiki received a tip from an Old English drinking birdie that said Paris Spleen will be part of the action. Stay tuned.

Why do people like Matt Driscoll more than Bobble Tiki? It’s just not fair. Yesterday all Bobble Tiki got delivered to his desk were dirty looks from the receptionist.

Geez.

You say one bad thing about Shih Tzus and this is what happens.

Meanwhile, what’s Matt Driscoll getting delivered? Oh, nothing — other than an exclusive burned copy of the Fucking Eagles yet to be released record, Midnight Sour.

But, never fear — what Bobble Tiki lacks in likeability he makes up for in resourcefulness. When Driscoll wasn’t looking, Bobble Tiki jumped into action and ripped Midnight Sour onto his computer.

Talk about kicking ass — this record delivers.

So far Bobble Tiki’s favorite track is “Stick With Me Girl (And Your Dreams Will Die Too)”. It hits close to home.

Finally, the Dirty Bird (Tacoma) vs. The Dirty Birds (Oly) battle appears to be over — at long last.

You may remember the two bands have been bickering over who’s more deserving of the name — and who kicks more ass. Those that know Bobble Tiki know where he stands on this issue (Jimmi Davies rules!)

Tacoma’s Dirty Bird has decided to find a new name — which they’ll be announcing at a show at Malarkey’s on Aug. 22.

Probably a wise decision.
