It’s all about hot rods

Carmen kicks it with a Kennedy

It’s times like these that make me wish the summer would go on forever and ever.

Last week it felt so good to wear light dresses, take brisk walks through Wright Park over the lunch break, and simply enjoy the feeling of the sun meeting my freckled cheeks.

Naturally, as soon as the warm weather hits, I’m a girl on the go, and last weekend was a great example of this local motion.

Friday consisted of a girl’s night out at Maxwell’s Speakeasy with K to the K, Little Lizzle and Natasha by my side. As soon as the 5 o’clock hour hit, Maxwell’s filled up every table with eager eaters, and the four of us took in the restaurant review that Jason and Jake de Paul offered on that comfortable space last week.

We nibbled on the tasty cheese plate and salad, drank fancy cosmos (ask bartender David for his best cosmo EVER) and conversed with those around us at the bar.

After, we decided to roll up the hill for a cocktail at Tempest where we scored the best hugs from Denise Tempest herself. I was sure to introduce K to the K and Little Lizzle and describe how important they are to Tacoma. I explained that K to the K’s family is a pretty big deal, which gave Denise the opportunity to offer the quote of the night, “Well, what does the Kennedy want to drink?”

Little Lizzle’s cell started blowing up with text messages from her family, and we adjourned to meet them at the Top of Tacoma. Shortly after, Lizzle and her crew headed to the Emerald Queen Casino, and K to the K, Natasha and I settled in for lots of laughs and a healthy buzz.

Saturday, Shawn Wheelock, Ian and Natasha picked me up in Shawn’s vintage wagon to head to the Amocat Speed Emporium open house in Puyallup. While Natasha was busy fluttering around, meeting people and taking pics, I was talking shop and drinking copious amounts of PBR with my new friend, Throb.

As night fell upon us, both Ian and Natasha were antsy to get back to Tacoma because Ian wanted to head home, and Natasha and I really wanted to hit up the Paris Spleen, Blanco Bronco and Girl Trouble show at Hell’s Kitchen. That was a stellar lineup and a killer show.

Sunday Little Lizzle and I attended the standing-room only benefit at the Swiss for Pat Medved, who is undergoing cancer treatment. This benefit and auction went toward Medved’s crazy medical costs, and I’d sincerely like to wish him and his family nothing but the very best.

What drew everyone in was a performance by The Elephants, and it was so good to see them since they’ve been so busy lately recording a new album.

After, Lizzle and I jumped over to the Pacific Grill’s Social event that featured Adonis beautiful people that packed each and every table, a fashion show from local boutiques, a DJ spinning beats and tasty apps. That made it a true Sunday Funday.

It’s always a bummer when magical summer weekends like these have to come to a close.
