In 1986, Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger designated April as the Month of the Military Child to celebrate military kids and the sacrifices they make. The Department of Defense has continued this tradition for over 30 years.

Show Your Support. April 13 is designated "Purple Up Day." On this day, wear purple to show your support for military kids. This is a great way for school administrators, teachers and the local community to show their support for military children.

Events. Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) currently has two events planned:

JBLM's Kids' Fest kicks off the Month of the Military Child Thursday, April 5, 1-4:30 p.m. at the MWR Fest Tent and Bowl Arena Lanes at Lewis Main. Enjoy hands-on activities, exhibits, displays, interactive games, free bowling and entertainment. The fest tent is next to Bowl Arena Lanes at 2200 Liggett Ave. (POC: Gloria at 253.967.6772)

Join military youth across America in running the 2018 Armed Forces Kids Run, Saturday, April 14, at Cowan Stadium.
