Do you watch disaster prepping television shows? Are you ready for a post-apocalypse scenario? Do you have a pantry stocked with enough food to feed a literal small army? Is your survival expertise unmatched? Or do you just want to test your survival skills?

This summer, active-duty servicemembers will go up against each other and have the chance to prove that they are "extreme survival" experts.

Better Opportunities for Single Service Members (BOSS) on Joint Base Lewis-McChord is hosting an "Extreme Survival Race" July 21-24 on JBLM for active-duty servicemembers.

Registration for the event is free, and teams of either four females or four males (members of the same wing or brigade) need to complete registration by June 1.

Other military branches and the Yakima Training Center will be allowed one team per gender with written command approval.

The four-day event takes place on JBLM and intends to build healthy competition among servicemembers with different service backgrounds.

Being pushed to your limits, while still working together as a team, will provide a one-of-a-kind learning experience for all participants. The event will also foster an environment of esprit de corps, or a feeling of fellowship, pride and common loyalty shared among servicemembers.

Participants should walk away from this "extreme survival" race with a new meaning of being pushed beyond one's limits as well as more confidence working as a team during extreme circumstances.

The race also intends to foster confidence among individuals, not just as a group, while challenging attendees to go above and beyond, not only in their military units or brigades, but also in their personal lives.

Like with any good survival scenario, enough words ... time for action!
