The Olympic Flight Museum in Olympia is well known for its vintage aircraft and aviation-related memorabilia and for its annual spring sale and show. Now, due to high patron demand, the museum is adding a fall show as well.

The Fall Military Collectables Show and Sale will be held in the museum Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature collectors and dealers with displays or historic and military vintage items for sale, some unusual, including field gear, classic women's uniforms, insignias, military medals and patches, and other items spanning from World War I to Vietnam.

"This year, we have more than 30 vendors and expect well over 500 patrons to visit," said Teri Thorning, the museum's executive director. "Also, there will be vintage airliner items for sale, aviation photographs, a military vehicle display, and a P-51D Mustang fighter from World War II, a UH-1H Huey Helicopter from Vietnam and an AH-1S Cobra Gunship. This isn't just a show where folks sell, trade or display memorabilia, it's also an educational opportunity."

Also new this year will be an early buyer opportunity, where patrons pay a $10 admission fee and are able to begin shopping at 8 a.m. during traditional setup hours. Regular admission is $5, and admission is free for museum members and children 6 and younger.

Vendor sales tables are still available for $25 each; display tables are $10. Reservations are required.

"We have visitors from all over, and they range from their 20s to their 70s," Thorning said.  "There's something here for everyone. The fall show and sale will feature items for all branches of the military. We also have on display in the general museum scale model collections and framed art depicting aviation aircraft in battle, for example."

Established in 1998, the Olympic Flight Museum is located at the Olympia Regional Airport on Old Highway 99 and is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and flying of vintage aircraft. Currently on display is the collection of Thomas C. Nelson "Tomcat" - a World War II veteran, Pearl Harbor survivor and one of only two surviving POWs interned in Japan. The museum also has a gift shop, which offers a wide variety of gift items in the realm of historical and contemporary aviation.
