Dr. Bridget Cantrell, a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), PTSD expert and author of several books, including "Once a Warrior: Wired for Life"(2007), is currently offering a military special on the book and its accompanying workbook, "Once a Warrior: Wired for Life - an Interactive Workbook."

"The interactive workbook doesn't just help warriors reintegrate and process coming home after their tour of duty is over," Cantrell said. "It has practical steps for active-duty military, veterans, retirees and their respective families."

Cantrell, a certified trauma specialist, also authored "Souls under Siege: The Affects of Multiple Troop Deployments and How to Weather the Storm"(2007) and "Down Range - To Iraq and Back" (2005), and is the founder and CEO of Hearts Toward Home International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the recovery and reintegration of veterans and trauma survivors. She also trains mental and healthcare professionals about veteran transitions and is an expert on multiple deployments, reintegration and combat operational stress.

For the last 20 years, she has worked closely with all branches of the military, including as a mental health provider for the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs PTSD program. She has lectured and conducted workshops on bases across the U.S. and globally, worked with couples and families in her private practice, counseled senior military leadership, and worked with and supported chaplains on various military initiatives.

"The workbook is another tool to help Soldiers address how to become a civilian after military duty," Cantrell said. "And when used in conjunction with the book, takes participants step by step from theory to practical application. Soldiers learn about themselves, what their triggers and patterns are and how to respond. It also addresses PTSD, managing TBI, suicidal tendencies, and is structured and task-driven. Many of my veteran and active-duty clients find it helps them through difficult readjustment periods. It also helps loved ones understand what Soldiers are going through when they may not be able to express it themselves."

Cantrell wrote the books in hopes of also helping Soldiers personalize their experiences and better communicate with their families. The overwhelming response from participants is that it has helped create a different sense of understanding, respect, honor and empathy.

"Also, troops appreciate that their spouses and families want to learn about what they're going through," she said. "You can never have too many tools in your toolbox, and (the books) can, and have, helped improve the quality of relationships."

The book and interactive workbookare currently being offered at a discount rate of $16.99 (for both books) until Oct. 1, when the book will cost $15.99 and the workbook will cost $16.99.
