JBLM's T Wo Trick Shots at it again

A group of Joint Base Lewis-McChord Soldiers who gained YouTube and Facebook fame for videos of themselves making trick basketball shots on base has done it again.

This time, the Soldiers are using ping-pong balls.

"T Wo Trick Shots" filmed its basketball video at hoops around the base in June. The latest video, featuring Soldiers Tommy Wojtala, Joshua Chanthavysouk and Ben Oliver, was shot in the barracks a couple months ago, before the trio deployed to Afghanistan with I Corps.

"We decided to change it up a little because new basketball goals were getting hard to find and we didn't have our own portable basketball hoop because we lived in the barracks," Wojtala wrote in an email from Afghanistan. "It was just something different that we didn't do yet."

The trio shows a lot of creativity in the video, bouncing balls off themselves and multiple tables and walls, eventually sinking them into a cup. As of Monday, the video on YouTube had more than 1,900 views.

"One of our favorite and most challenging shots was shooting the ping-pong ball up four tables at different heights," Wojtala said.

Through it all, each Soldier was constantly thinking of new shots to try.

"We considered doing football as well as Frisbee trick shots," said Wojtala, who hails from Abbeville, Ala. "It was also easier to do (ping-pong shots) later in the day when it started getting late or (if) the weather was bad."

While the T Wo Soldiers are working hard during their deployment, they are still trying to put together an Afghanistan trick shots video.

"It's a little more challenging to do here in Afghanistan because ultimately the mission comes first and we work 12-hour shifts with no days off," the Soldier said. "Most of us are on different shifts, so the hardest part is getting everyone out together at the same time. It is always fun going out and goofing off making trick shots on our free time though."

Creativity will likely play a key role in the next video, Wojtala said, because there isn't much to work with where they are stationed.

"Our next trick shot video might just be a combination of multiple trick shots such as basketball, football, Frisbee and whatever other sports equipment we can find around here," he said.
