JBLM's trick shot team

Joint Base Lewis-McChord Soldier Tommy Wojtala has never met a basketball shot he didn't like.

A shoot-first point guard in high school at Abbeville (Ala.) Christian Academy, Wojtala led his team in scoring his senior year.

He's still shooting the ball at will these days, but now it's on a bigger stage, from farther and farther away from the basket and often with a twist.

On a recently trip back to Alabama on leave, Wojtala and some of his friends from high school were playing basketball and the group started talking about filming themselves doing trick shots.

Wojtala put the plan in motion, starting "T Wo Trick Shots." He got together a team in Abbeville, and when he got back to JBLM assembled another group of fellow Soldiers from his unit and started making hoops magic. He even ordered custom T-shirts for each team member to wear when they're out shooting. Wojtala, Luke Carroll, Alexander Raborn, Joshua Chanthavysouk and Benjamin Oliver set out to find locations on JBLM to start performing trick shots.

"We basically drove all around post looking for any place with a basketball goal," Wojtala said.

Then they got to work. The shot placement reads like a Dr. Seuss book: Over the head, through the legs, standing atop the opposite basket, on a bike, on a fence, on playground equipment - even from a building window adjacent to the court. But the T Wo Trick Shots team made all the shots look easy.

"Our mindset is to be as unique and as creative as possible," Wojtala said. "Sometimes in the videos you'll see us freak out when we make it. We amaze ourselves sometimes."

No matter how hard the shot, the team sticks with it until it goes in.

"No matter how long it takes," he said.

Everyone on the team submits ideas of creative shots, and then whoever has the best skill set to do the shot will attempt it.

"Dream big, go bigger," Wojtala said. "That's our motto ... to hit bigger and better shots each time."

Wojtala edits all the videos and posts them to the team's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/pages/T-Wo-Trick-Shots).

"We just love hearing the feedback from people on the page," the Soldier said.

The team is currently planning its next video. It will likely include a portable hoop that the team plans on transporting to a variety of locations around the Puget Sound. Wojtala even has some calls in to the University of Washington about setting the hoop up in the middle of Husky Stadium and shooting from different sections of the stands.

Fans can likely expect more big things.
