The influential Tacoma based production company The Warehouse continues its run of indie underground and aboveground crafted music shows - hand-picking artists, popping up with unusual venues and supporting community artists and entertainers. When the words "Warehouse Presents" hits a poster, SOTA kids wet their pants, Broadway Center adjusts schedules and the Post Defiance website folks settle in for a 2,000 word night.

This Friday, at Urban Grace Church in Tacoma, The Warehouse kicks off its 2013 Candle Lit series with the super dynamic and super talented Damien Jurado with guests Jake Hemming and Amelia Saakian.

"Damien Jurado is quite possibly one of the best singer/songwriters many of us get the pleasure of experiencing," says Doug Stoeckicht, marketing director at The Warehouse. "His music moves us personally and we believe it's worth sharing with those who are connected to The Warehouse. Also, to have an artist such as Damien make himself accessible to us, and this event, is an amazing privilege we couldn't pass up. People are in for a treat."

Music combined with atmosphere is one of the many aesthetics that The Warehouse aims for. The Candle Lit series is another way to highlight the unique visions of these Tacoma creatives.

"The Warehouse has always been committed to creating unique events that not only showcase the talents of artists, but also provide our patrons an opportunity to connect with our musical guests on a different level," says Stoeckicht. "The Candle Lit shows provide a level of intimacy that you wouldn't be able to experience at a normal venue. We want our guests to sit back and relax and listen to the artistry happen. Urban Grace provides a fantastic environment. It was built and designed for singing and to carry voices throughout the main room, and it has been so beautifully kept. It really helps complete the experience."

If The Warehouse is starting off the series with headliner Damien Jurado, who has the raw talent to induce goose flesh with a first strum and love-laced lyric, I ask Stoeckicht what's next for the series.

"We have a number of different artists lined up for the year," he says. "We don't want to give away who they are just yet. Just know that we've stepped up our game and it's going to be an impressive year."
