What do a bullfighting mariachi, a bionic dolphin, an inflatable robot, a Viking dragon tamer, and four globetrotting penguins have in common? All will appear in an outdoor venue near you in coming weeks. You can see them for free, in fact, courtesy of BECU, Click! Network and Metro Parks Tacoma.

The initial film, Book of Life, screens in Wright Park (501 S. I St.), July 25 in support of Ethnic Fest. It's a CG-animated love triangle pitting torero Manolo against soldier Joaquin for the hand of Maria. There are dueling deities involved - as Facebook says, it's complicated. Then comes Dolphin Tale 2, in which a companion must be found for Winter, a prosthetically-enhanced bottlenose. It screens in Kandle Park (2323 N. Shirley St.), July 31.

After a time out for National Night Out and Summer Bash at the People's Community Center on MLK, the series returns August 14th with Disney's Big Hero 6 at Stewart Heights Park (402 E. 56th St.) Then comes How to Train Your Dragon 2, in which Hiccup and Toothless must contend with a megalomaniacal warlord. That film screens August 15th at Gray Middle School, 6229 S. Tyler St. Finally, on August 21st at Norpoint Park (4818 Nassau Ave. NE), the Penguins of Madagascar travel the world in search of a scientist who may also be a cephalopod. It's kind of a nature film.

All five are rated PG, and will be accompanied by food vendors, games, live music, and other diversions to make an evening before the silver screen complete. Seating is first come, first served on the lawn, so bring blankets or chairs along with the snack of your choice. I enjoy popcorn. The dolphin, dragon and penguins, however, prefer seafood.
