There is a clarity in how SPC Christian Flores conducts himself as a soldier.

Assigned to the 1-2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 7th Infantry Division, Flores serves as a Signal Support Specialist.

"When I first saw this military occupational specialty, I liked it a lot," began the native of Puerto Rico.

"The fact that you can use radios and antennas to stay in sync for the fight to help soldiers in the organization to communicate clearly and effectively makes this MOS interesting."

Born and raised in Aibonito, Puerto Rico, Flores enjoyed playing sports and going to school. His father passed when he was 15 years old, and from that point on he took the lead in supporting his family.

"No doubt that was a tough challenge for me," he continued, "but I stayed cheerful and full of hope in order to help others while also working hard for my goals."

After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Puerto Rico and graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2020.

"I enlisted in the Army in February 2021 in Puerto Rico because I wanted to challenge myself to great things," he began, "and I was hungry for the new experiences and opportunities of military life."

Joint Base Lewis-McChord is his first duty station, and Flores serves with Headquarters and Headquarters Company.

"On a regular basis I am in charge of maintaining and supporting communications across the brigade and its battalions," he added, "and this work requires clarity of thought."

He is quick to acknowledge that he works with soldiers who have coached and mentored him to be a better person and communications specialist.

"With their advice and knowledge, I have striven to be a great example for others as I work with different types of radios and antennas to get everybody in sync for winning the fight," explained Flores.

He plans on making the Army a career and then returning home to Aibonito to raise a family and work to improve the communication network throughout Puerto Rico.

"I picture myself having a good house back at the mountains of my beautiful town, taking care of my future family and teaching them to be successful in life," he said.

"No matter how long apart we are, I will always be proud of where I came from and where I am going."

But in the meantime, Flores plans on ensuring clear communications within 1-2 SBCT and maintaining a positive and helpful attitude.

"I think that a positive attitude and a smile every day will help others to engage and feel good," he concluded.

"Do your work with enthusiasm and motivation while seeking the best for yourself and your team. Hard work; dedication!"
