Many local businesses are showing their appreciation to military servicemembers on Armed Forces Day and during the month of May. At businesses, ask if they offer a military discount. Some that don't usually offer a military discount may offer one this month. So take advantage of these offers and save some money.

Quinault Beach Resort and Casino is offering veterans and active-duty military a $10 FREE play and 3x points in the casino all day Saturday, May 18, and a 20 percent military discount in the resort. (Some limitations apply)

The third annual military appreciation day, A Day at the Races - A Salute to Armed Forces, sponsored by the USO Northwest and Emerald Downs, is Sunday, May 26. Military and their families receive free admission. Doors open at 1 p.m. with the first race at 2 p.m. The Buffalo Soldiers will perform and there are bounce houses and pony rides for the kids.

This year, the 2019 Blue Star Museum Program will kick off on Armed Forces Day, and will run through the summer. This program offers free admission to military and their family members at museums all over the country. Sherwin Williams, in honor of Military Appreciation Month, military and veterans save an additional 10 percent on paints and stains during the month of May. 

Silverwood Theme Park in Idaho is offering discounts. All military personnel and veterans (identification required) receive free admission to Silverwood Theme Park Saturday through Monday, May 27. Their immediate family members (spouse and children) also receive a special discounted rate ($24 plus tax, ages 8-64; $19 plus tax, ages 3-7; and 65+, a savings of up to $14) when purchasing tickets at Silverwood's front gate. For information, call 208.683.3400. With summer right around the corner, this is a great deal. Keen offers a 50 percent discount to active-duty military and military spouses through the KEEN Pro program. Apply on website to receive discount. These boots and sandals are perfect for an active outdoor summer.

You may have heard of the Nike Employee Store in Beaverton that opens its doors to the military at certain times of the year, but did you know the Columbia Sportswear Company Employee Store goes one step further and allows you in any time they are open, and you can bring up to four non-military guests? Items are marked with the discounted price which is typically 40-60 percent off the retail price.

Check the websites of your favorite local attractions. Many offer discounts and free admission during the Memorial Day weekend.
