Driving on Interstate 5 during commute hours may look more like the parking lot you just left. Puget Sound population growth is currently in the top 30 for the nation -- traffic is expected to become even more challenging.

There are alternative transportation options to get around Joint Base Lewis-McChord and the Puget Sound. GO Lewis-McChord has a suite of alternative and sustainable transportation options available.

  • GO Transit is a shuttle transit system that runs on a set schedule just like a city bus would, with designated stops and times. GO Transit is free to ride for anyone who can get through the gate.
GO Transit runs from JBLM North, JBLM Main, Madigan and McChord Field, including off-base to DuPont, during daylight hours. The system runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends.
    Relax and enjoy the ride.
  • GO Bike is a bike share program, available for short- or long-term checkout at multiple locations across JBLM. Great for quick trips down the street, team-building exercises or a change-up to a workout routine.
The Single-Speed cruiser bikes are available for servicemembers, contractors and family members 18 years old or older. Checkout includes a new helmet, safety vest and a bike lock.
Bike lights available for use upon request.
  • GO Rideshare is a vanpool program for servicemembers, civilians or contractors. You'll qualify for the Mass Transit Benefit Program as well. This provides a subsidy of up to $260 to use toward the costs of vanpool.
By taking advantage of the MTBP, commute to JBLM is free, and it is an opportunity to form new friendships, get one more chapter in on that book that you want to finish or, when it's been a tough day, catch a quick nap.
  • Connect to the wider Puget Sound by using public transportation. From Madigan, take Pierce Transit Route 206, it will take you to Lakewood Towne Center and from there, you can go almost anywhere in the Puget Sound on mass transit.
