It's a huge timesaver

As military spouse and family member, there are many to things to know, learn and remember about military life. So wouldn't it be nice to have an easy-to-use technological resource that is able to quickly reference, guide, and provide information for all your questions and concerns?

The good news: there's an app for that! The better news: it's easy to use and intuitive. The best news: it's totally free.

MyMilitaryLife is the new app created by the National Military Family Association. The app is designed to take the guesswork out of all the issues that affect military families (such as kids, moves, jobs and deployments) by creating a fast resource right at your fingertips.

Using the app is simple: download it, do a brief survey, and you are on your way.

In addition to an abundance of information, links and resources, the app provides some great tools such as personalized to-do lists, specially tailored suggestions for the user's branch of service and location, new program alerts, an emergency contact list and more.

MyMilitaryLife can be found on iTunes, Google Play and the National Military Family Association web portal.

Here's a sample of some of the many things the app covers: having a baby; reintegration; transitioning out of the military; spouse education; spouse employment; the basics; survivors; deployment; moving; and raising kids.

Recently, writer and military spouse Samantha Curtis tested the app for paperblog.com. Curtis was able to apply her personal military family experience (for instance, facing an upcoming move) into the app and was really pleased with the results. She posed her questions into the app, and not only did she receive valuable information, but an automatic and personalized check list also popped up with helpful reminders to aid in coordinating the moving process.

While overall reviews seem to be glowing and match Curtis' positive and helpful experience, there are a handful of reviews that indicate some users have had trouble with the app shutting down, and they were unsuccessful gaining access.

Keeping all of the reviews in mind, this reporter decided to take the app for a spin with an Android device. The app downloaded quickly from Google Play, and I was on my way before I knew it. Like Curtis, I found MyMilitaryLife fast, intuitive and pretty easy to use. Most of all, I thought it was a huge timesaver; users don't have to spend the time looking up individual sites as information is all handily stored in one place. I also felt like this app would be really perfect for a military spouse and parent on the go, particularly those with younger children. You can work on research while the children finish up soccer practice, when the kiddos have a play date, or while waiting for the school bus to arrive. All the information is right there and easily stored for later reading, or easily shared using email and social media.
