It’s a new week, which means it’s time for another installment of Bobble Tiki’s South Sound music news and notes column. Without further ado, let’s get rolling …

As you may have noticed, Bobble Tiki was on vacation last week. He spent five and a half days sitting in his own filth on the sofa — a staycation let’s call it — and it was grand. Bobble Tiki gained eight pounds, and returned to work this week rejuvenated, or at least as rejuvenated as one can be after spending five and a half days on the couch and gaining eight pounds.

Maybe Bobble Tiki should take up roller-skating to shed some of his staycation weight? If he decides to go this route, which, let’s be honest — he probably wont (not because it’s a bad idea, just because he hates all forms of exercise) — Bobble Tiki will make his way to Wheelz Skate Arena (2101 Mildred St.) in Fircrest this Saturday night. Not only will the rink be hopping with adolescent hormones, as always, but local hip-hop artist and emerging phenom Roderic will be in the house, throwing a massive party in celebration of his upcoming appearance on BET’s 106 & Park on Wednesday, Sept. 30.  If you dig fresh, original hip-hop from Tacoma, this is an event worth putting on your itinerary.

Speaking of events worth your attention, most indie music fans in Tacoma know of Kyle Brunette — whether it’s from his stoic bass skills in The Nightgowns, the brilliance of his own band Friskey, or his mad recording and production skills from projects with Tacoma bands far and wide. The dude is literally prolific when it comes to pure indie rock goodness in our town. On Saturday at The Den @ urbanXchange, Brunette (solo style) will play a show with two noteworthy Portland bands, Patterns and Paper Brain. Whether you’re an all ager or not, this is another show not to be missed.
