STONEGATE OPENS SATURDAY

Stonegate Pizza – a new spot on South Tacoma way that we’ve been hearing rumblings about for some time – will officially open on Saturday, Sept. 26. The Fabulous Wailers will release their new CD, Roster Rock, opening night at Stonegate in its upstairs Rock and Roll Bar. Check it out at 54th and South Tacoma Way.

DINE OUT

Pacific Grill is participating in the Share Our Strength’s Great American Dine Out, a weeklong national restaurant event. Through Sept. 26, thousands of restaurants, including Pacific Grill, have joined together to raise funds to help end childhood hunger in America. After you donate to the Great American Dine Out at Pacific Grill a complimentary Julia Child Warm Brownie Sundae dessert will arrive to your table. Pacific Grill is at 1502 Pacific Ave. in downtown Tacoma. Reserve your seat at 253.627.3535.

BEE LADY AUCTION AND SOUP CONTEST

The Sixth Avenue Farmers Market (Sixth Ave. and Pine St.) will have a "Best Fall Soup" contest Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 29. Tickets are $10 and are available this today at the Tacoma Farmers Market information booth (tickets must be purchased in advance). Money raised will go to support the Ludwig family, which suffered an unexpected loss when Peter Ludwig, husband of "Bee Lady" Chanetta Ludwig, died in August. The soup feed will feature local chefs making soups judged by the audience. The event also will feature an auction and live music.

OKTOBERFEST AT DOYLE’S

October means three things: beer, beer and beer. (So does September as many pubs launch their Oktoberfests long before Oct. 1.)

What better place to celebrate these three things than at Doyle’s Public House. The Stadium District English-style bar launched its Oktoberfest Saturday by tapping the firkin — the same day the Oktoberfest celebration began in Munich.
Doyle’s celebrates Oktoberfest through Oct. 3 with several events including hard stompin’ Celtic rock band Ockham’s Razor Saturday, Sept. 26.

Beer wise, pints, half liters and full liters of Radeberger Pilsner and Ayinger amber have been tagged as the Oktoberfest beers at Doyle’s. The liter stein is $8 — $15 buys the stein for your fireplace. Doyle’s is at 208 Saint Helens Ave. in Tacoma.

SUNDAY STIRRINGS

Bayview School of Cooking in Olympia presents a mini cooking class called New Fig Configurations Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. Learn culinary artistry with figs in salads, tarts and appetizers for $25. Reserve your spot at 360.754.1448.

ALASKA OR BUST

Duke’s Chowder House along Tacoma’s Ruston Way will pair Alaskan Brewing Company beers with Alaskan food Thursday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. Space is limited for the $49.95 event. Reserve your space at 206.985.9466.
