Stop the rumors!

New Frontier is freakin’ open people!

Rumors tend to fly around this city faster than the speed of light, and what we typically find after they’ve fallen upon several ears or appeared online is that some are indeed true and others are quite false.

There’s one rumor in particular that I’d like to help dispel immediately: that the New Frontier

Lounge is closing for three weeks for unknown reasons.

This rumor is so very false.

The New Frontier Lounge did shut down for just two days as management of the lounge changed directions (Neil Harris is now managing), but it is certainly open now and there are no plans of shutting it down anytime at all.

As a matter of fact, there are some upcoming shows at The New Frontier Lounge that you’ll likely want to check out, and I also have some information on T-Town celebrity bartenders that will be taking the helm there.

This Saturday you can take in the band Frisky, which features Kyle from The Elephants. Wallpaper, a band from Seattle that played during the recent Squeak and Squawk Music Festival, will open for Frisky. This shindig starts at 9-ish p.m. Harris says one of his personal favorites is Frisky’s “Pillows” song.

Sunday, Alex Tapia will open for Ten Miles of Bad Road, which is an outlaw blues band. This show will start around 8 p.m.

Here’s a quick little piece of advice about the venue. If your ears are as sensitive as mine (which sucks so royally when all you do is love rock and roll), I’d like to recommend that you bring earplugs if loud bands are in the lineup. This space is so gorgeous with its high ceilings, which also makes it tough to absorb sound, so protect those precious ears, lovers.

I also have excellent news about T-Town bartenders that I know you’ll want to visit.

Jesse Turcotte (of Jazzbones and Duke’s fame) will be bartending at the New Frontier on Tuesdays and Chris Taylor (of the Swiss fame) will be taking the helm on Thursdays.

Most of all you really should check out the New Frontier Lounge because, A) THEY’RE OPEN starting at 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays; and B) The New Frontier is such a cool bar.

The Dome District is full of so much potential, and it’s places like the New Frontier that will continue to draw people to this area, and show just how vibrant it is and can be.

Be sure to connect with the New Frontier Lounge via MySpace where they’ll be posting bulletins regarding their upcoming shows, at www.myspace.com/newfrontier_tacoma. Also, the New Frontier will soon have their own Web site, which we’ll let you know about through our Weekly Volcano blog, found at www. weeklyvolcanospew.com
