Funkadelic Broadway

Waxing Seven Muses

Everyone in this city might not know directly who I am, but every single one of you dreamy little readers should know by now that one of the things that I’m extremely passionate about is supporting small, independently-owned businesses.

There are so many throughout the city that I love to frequent, especially when it comes to those bars and restaurants.

But whenever I’m in the middle of the day, or kickin’ around on any old Saturday, there’s one small business that I don’t think enough of you know about, which has completely captured my heart.

Seven Muses.

This little funkadelic spot is located right on Broadway downtown, a street that I think carries some of the greatest potential for retail coziness like Seven Muses.

This unique retail haven opened in July 2004, and it offers one-of-a-kind art and crafts for the home, garden or wardrobe that are rooted in traditional elegance or whimsical fun.

Even better, Seven Muses carries merchandise that is so very environmentally friendly, from a lampshade made from a recycled carburetor to a clock that’s made from recycled computer parts.

I love spending time and money on Seven Muses and taking in all of the incredible colors and sights, which include everything from little knick knacks like artistic light switch cover plates, purses, gorgeous jewelry, journals, fancy martini glasses, innovative furniture, soap from organic ingredients and art sprinklers.

I can remember a couple of years ago when I heard that the owner of Seven Muses had gotten into a bad car accident and do-gooders throughout the community were asking all sorts of Tacomans to spend money at this location to help the owner out with medical costs.

I was such a devoted fan of Seven Muses at that point that I started to freak out because I love this shop so much that I don’t ever want anything to happen to it.

Doing retail in downtown Tacoma isn’t the easiest of endeavors, which is why Seven Muses and all of the small merchants in our city could really use your support.

Why don’t you make a day of it on Broadway? Get fancy at Sublime Salon and Spa, stop into the Mad Hat Tea Company for herbal bliss, grab some lunch at the Varsity Grill and fall in love with Seven Muses, just as I have. Why end there? Relax at the Hotel Murano’s new lounge with tasty cocktails and cool ambiance. Ahhh.

The Seven Muses is open for business from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and until 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. They’re also open by appointment any time.

And now that you’ve read this far, I hope you’ll understand that Broadway is where it’s at.
