Washington Center for the Performing Arts has announced its upcoming season, and it offers a bit of something for everyone.

The One World season will have comedy, concerts and character.

First on deck is the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra with the Bravo! Vancouver Chorale on Oct. 2. The show promises to be a night of international culture and music by Croatian and American composers, including some classical favorites.

Two days later, one of Canada’s major musical talents, Natalie MacMaster, will bring her Celtic music and her fiddling power to the capital city.

The whole One World concept comes in a single package Oct. 23 as Lura takes to the stage. Born in Portugal to parents from an island chain off the coast of West Africa, Lura swirls all of her European and African cultural heritage with Brazilian rhythms and urban beats to form a music that can’t be described.

Washington Center gets traditional with a performance by American Ballet Theatre II on Nov. 1. This classical ballet company of young dancers handpicked from around the world performs some of the best work the art form has to offer.

Then come dueling guitars as Martin Taylor and Martin Simpson, two of the finest living guitarists, take to the stage together for the first time.  They each will play solo and then perform a few pieces together.

Linda Eder is set to perform Nov. 21 with her solid Broadway base to bring the golden age of the Great White Way to Olympia.

The feeling at Washington Center gets a bit light Nov. 29 as the Seattle Comedy Competition pays a visit with some of the funniest comedians in the Puget Sound battling it out in front of a live studio audience. This show will feature some of the best comedians from past competitions to all but guarantee a night of fun stuff. One of the promised standouts of the evening will be Derrick Cameron, who has made appearances on The Tonight Show and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend.

Mark Morris Dance Group will perform Dec. 5, bringing one of the leading dance troupes to the capital city stage.

Dance and music gets old school after the new year with Movin’ Out, a jukebox musical featuring the songs of Billy Joel. Los Lobos rounds out January with unplugged versions of the group’s Mexican-American blend of music.

Other standouts of the season include Sarah Vowell, the bitingly clever comedian and author best known for her stories on This American Life. She pays a visit Feb. 13.

Prime for the presidential season, Capitol Steps will come to Olympia after the inauguration of the new president to give the comedy group’s take on the world of Capitol Hill.

One of the hits of the season will be Gilligan’s Island - The Musical, set to play in March. Starring Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady on the Brady Bunch, the show features Gilligan, the Skipper, Mary Ann, Ginger, the professor, the millionaire, and his wife doing their thing during 20 original songs.

The roster goes on and on. More information and ticket details are available at washingtoncenter.org.
