Rhym' in the Revolution

Brazilian hip-hop hits Olympia

Seattle underground staples Alpha P and Sleepwalkers will join Brazilian hip-hop nomads Fato Criminal to present Rhym’ in the Revolution at the Clipper Saturday.

Fato Criminal wants you to know that in January 2000 the Salvadorian state water company raised water prices by 300 percent for those who used the least water. The Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador contend that the hike is an attempt to pave the way for privatization of the country’s water supply. In a country where 50 percent of the population lives in poverty, many are now forced to choose between drinking water and their children’s education. Proceeds from the show will benefit efforts to block the privatization of water in El Salvador and a host of other worthy causes.

Leading the way is Brazilian hip-hop crew Fato Criminal, who charmed the pants off of Washington when they visited last spring. Also on deck is Alpha-P, which has been blowing the minds of the masses for more than a decade. This crew runs thick, featuring ASUN, aka MadWon , JERM Tha Hooligan, DukeNuke, Inkubiz, Kasi, Asad, Rajnii and about a half-dozen more. Finally, experimental sound sculptors Sleepwalkers will bring digital madness reminiscent of the best psychotic Swedish noisesmiths.
