Sublime Salon and Spa

What I blew my paycheck on this week

An art gallery and print shop, a café and a music store have all existed previously in the downtown Tacoma space now housing Sublime Salon and Spa, owned by Brian Richards. Richards, along with Jennifer Baum, Mark David and others, crafted Sublime out of the ashes of Salon Metro and might be the first to take full advantage of the two-story high ceilings and broad windows. Achieving a modern hip vibe in a historic building can be a challenge; yet, the simple, cream-colored walls, black and lime green accents, and eye-catching paintings by Angela McFadden gracing the walls do just that. The salon, which opened May 15, offers typical services — cut, color, and style — with the added bonus of a private massage room. Enjoy a hot stone therapeutic treatment for the back or a soothing regular massage ($50-$140). You can have a full Brazilian wax ($70) or just get your brows done ($20).

A manicure and pedicure area will be completed in the coming weeks at the back of the salon near huge picture windows looking out on downtown Tacoma.  And massaging, reclining lounge chairs will be on a raised platform. Attention to detail is a prime focus for Richards, evident in washing stations with shiatsu massage chairs and padded neck rests in the wash basins themselves. Each chair has a personal dimmer light overhead. Eight styling stations provide ample opportunity to have your locks revamped by any one of the Sublime stylists. Each brings a variety of professional experience and personal style to almost completely ensure that whatever style or look you are hoping to achieve will be delivered.
