"Azul: Contemporary Interpretations In Primary Blue Mood"

I am honored to be in the "Azul" exhibition with five excellent artists at B2 Gallery. I will not write about my own paintings, but will comment on the other artists. There are some astonishing works to be seen, starting with the all-blue figurative sculpture by Francisco Salgado featured on the

On local screens this week

BABY MAMA: Tina Fey and Amy Poehler share exquisite comic timing and “chemistry” in Baby Mama which also features a well-honed script and some terrific supporting players to round out the picture.  Put it all together, and you have one of the funniest movies to be released so far this

First-time, not so charming

My mistake was to read the interview with the director. At the beginning of my review of The Strangers, I typed my star rating instinctively: “One star.” I was outraged. I wrote: “What a waste of a perfectly good first act! And what a maddening, nihilistic, infuriating ending!” I was

Sex is a disappointment

I am not the person to review this movie. Perhaps you will enjoy a review from someone who disqualifies himself at the outset, doesn’t much like most of the characters and is bored by their bubble-brained conversations. Here is a 145-minute movie containing one (1) line of truly witty dialogue:

Dave’s of Milton

Nothing beats a rough afternoon of swingin’ at Milton’s Kemper Park then a quick trip to the Hide-A-Way Room at Dave’s of Milton. Dive bar veterans unite! The Hide-A-Way Room is a genuine find, and well worth the trip up I-5. The servers are like family as they mingle around the

Coffee stands and attractive baristas — the partnership is nothing new. As long as there have been coffee stands, there have been dudes who frequent them more for the chance to interact with some hot young thing than the coffee. It’s not rocket science. It’s the testicular fueled American way. It’s

Upper Crust They like it deep in Chicago, and New Yorkers swear they do it best. What about Tacomans? We do it gourmet, dahling! Thin-crusted and loaded with toppings, upscale pizza is thriving — low-fat diets be damned. Posh pizzerias have captured the genre, replacing fraternity crowds with fashionable foodies. One

The 40s can be a tough transition for many women, especially in fashion. It’s the age where mini skirts are no longer appropriate no matter how rockin’ your body is, and too soon for ultra-conservative sweaters and button-up blouses. Many women lose their style during this time of life, attempting

Through Feb. 10: "Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks"

For better and worse, Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks at Tacoma Little Theatre is a very cute play. For some in our Sunday matinée audience, it was LOL funny. Mostly, though, patrons appeared to be charmed but not laughing, and they grumbled through its minutes-long scene changes.

Avant on Guard

Perry Onorio is trying his best to keep the Black Front Gallery in Olympia alive. I’m afraid his chances for success are slim to none. Keeping a small art gallery alive anywhere in the South Sound is tough — especially if it’s a gallery that shows risky, young artists. The
